Dr. Mehta’s research program focuses on the role of innate immunity and inflammation in the development of cardiovascular and metabolic diseases. Using a trans-disciplinary approach that involves genetic epidemiology, translational medicine, and novel cardiovascular imaging approaches, Dr. Mehta and his team study how inflammation affects insulin resistance, the development of metabolic syndrome, and lipoprotein dysfunction, all of which are risk factors for atherosclerosis and subsequent cardiovascular disease (CVD).

Research Interest: My Research Interests Span Many Areas Including Bioinformatics and Metabolomics. As a Phd Student at Center of Magnetic Resonance of University of Florence (Italy), My Research Focused on the Metabolomic Analysis of Biofluid (E.G., Urine, Serum, Saliva) and Tissue (E.G., Intact Human Liver) Samples. I Used Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Spectroscopy and Advanced Statistical Analysis Techniques to Identify and Predict Metabolomic Fingerprints. In Particular, I Used NMR-Based Metabolomic Analysis to Identify a Fingerprint of Poor-Survival in the Serum of Patient with Metastatic Colorectal Cancer.
Now as Postdoc at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, My Current Research Focuses on Identifying Metabolic Fingerprint Predictors of Prostate Cancer Development and Progression to Improve our Understanding of The Mechanisms Linking Metabolism with the Biology of Prostate Cancer. Moreover, I Will Contribute on Developing of New Standard Operation Procedures for Metabolomic Analysis in Formalin Fixed Paraffin Embedded Tissues.

To this End, I Have Worked and Gained Significant Amount of Knowledge on Factors Influencing Anticancer Delivery and Activity in Brain aBrain Metastases Developed from Breast Cancer in Mouse Models. These Include: (1) How BBB is Altered in Mouse Models of Brain Metastases of Breast Cancer. (2) Pharmacokinetic-Pharmacodynamic Relationship of Anticancer Drugs in Brain Metastases. (3) in Vitro- In Vivo Correlations (IVIVC) to Predict Optimum Therapeutic Concentrations for Treatment of Brain Metastases. (4) Improving Targeted Anticancer Drug Delivery to Brain Tumors by Inhibiting Efflux Transporters and Piggy Backing Drugs to Substrates of Influx Transporters at the BBB.
